PLEASE COME ALONG AND CHECK OUT THE NEW #WILLDOES COMMUNITY YOUTH BUS!
The bus will be available for the public to view from 10am on Saturday 19 February at King George’s Park. Just turn up and see what we have all be able to achieve with your support and fundraising.
The #Willdoes community youth bus is converted double decker bus offering a range of community services to children, which cost £106,000 to convert into an outreach facility.
Dorset Youth Association have plans to provide a variety of services to young people in Dorchester, Weymouth and Portland, while the Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) in Dorset will also use the bus to vaccinate young people in more remote areas with plans for it to be parked at Bournemouth stadium at some point in the future.
“The lack of youth provision, funds and safe spaces in Dorset is at crisis point with so many young people suffering,” said Lesley Paddy, Chair, Trustee and mother of Will who helped raise the funds necessary to convert the bus. “It will offer a safe warm space for young people to meet with each other as well as youth workers, counsellors and medical professionals.”
The bus, which was purchased by the charity for £10k, now includes a variety of amenities including a working kitchen to provide warm drinks and snacks when necessary. Upstairs, a private room incorporating the original backseat of the double decker is designed as a private space for consultations, sexual health clinics and career advice, while the remaining space has been decorated as a casual lounge ‘hang out’ area with bean bags.
A schedule of the bus and its location will be advertised on our website www.willdoes.co.uk shortly after launch.
We look forward to seeing you there.
