#Willdoes sails with Ocean Youth Trust

On 1st July we joined the team of volunteers and staff from Ocean Youth Trust aboard their 105 foot vessel 'Prolific'.

Ocean Youth Trust South (OYTS) invited us and another charity, Ned's Fund, to find out more about the OYTS and how they help young people. #Willdoes and Ned's Fund have both helped them to offer places on their voyages to disadvantaged and vulnerable young people.

The day was fantastic and very enlightening. We experienced what the young people would do on their voyages. The team were amazing and showed us the ropes on how to sail a 105 foot boat.

It wasn't just a day of sitting around, it was a day of team work involving pilotage, basic navigation, meteorology, practical seamanship, helming, sail handling, anchoring, mooring, rope work and galley duties. We sailed a distance of 38nm from Southampton to Portsmouth and back and around again (as we were going so fast!) with a maximum wind strength of F7.

Thank you to all the team (the majority are volunteers!) at OYTS for this special day. We learnt first hand the difference that you are making to young people and will continue to support this charity!
